This delightful four bedroom Holiday Cottage in Calvados Normandy can be found in the splendour of the French Countryside. It is situated at St Jouin, near Dozule in the heart of Normandy, 30km from Honfleur and about 20km from Deauville, one of the main horse racing circuits of France. It boasts a large marina, very exclusive shops, casinos and restaurants. Long sandy beaches and marina can be found within 7km, at Dives Sur Mer and Cabourg where large hypermarkets can also be found.The spacious accommodation will sleep up to 6-8 in comfort. There are 4 bedrooms (1) Master bedroom en-suite) (2) other double bedrooms, plus (1) bedroom with 2 single beds. There is also a double sofa bed in the lounge if needed. There are 3 toilets, (1 downstairs) plus 2 shower rooms with sinks and fitted units, (1) with a bath. Both showers a large walk-in type with a metre plus shower trays (plenty of room inside). It comes complete with all modern conveniences, including a fully fitted kitchen, satellite television and central heating throughout. With an open log fire being the final touch to this well maintained country home. Outside, the house is equipped with a large patio, garden furniture and static barbeque. The large gardens opening onto the Normandy countryside are idyllic. A linen service can be supplied if requested for a small extra fee.
There are excellent golf courses locally, which can be played at reasonable rates, also trout fishing within 2km at private lakes. The house is situated near the World War Two British and Allied landing beaches and war cemeteries, 15km from Pegasus Bridge and the first house liberated in WWII. Only 2km from the small country town of Dozule, which provides all the amenities which maybe required locally, i.e., supermarkets and banks. Paris is only a 90min drive, with Caen, the County Town of Normandy, being only 25mins away. There is a direct rail route from Caen to all major cities. St Jouin is easily accessible being only 20mins from the ferry port of Caen, which provides regular ferry crossings from Portsmouth.The ports of Calais is approxmately 2 hours away by car, with Le Havre being under 1 hour away, and Dieppe being about 1hr 45 mins away.

For years now the local wild life has been encouraged to the large garden. By placing bird seed ( there's bird table and feeders in the garden) which attracts plenty of wild birds some rarely seen in the UK. these days, if interested take your binoculars. There is a bird identification book in the library. At the font of the house in the oak trees there are (Red Squirrels). They are very timid but do come down to the lawns early mornings. You will also see young rabbits in the gardens, they come from within the group of trees to the right of the main entrance. Deer, badgers and wild pigs have also been seen in the surrounding fields.

Large traditional 3 Storey farmhouse with private pool

This spacious 3 storey farmhouse is set within eight acres of its own private land. The house comprises of 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living room and games area. The property suits both families and groups of friends.

The swimming pool is bathed in sunshine from mid-morning until sunset (which is one of the nicest times to take a splash). The pool is 8.5m x 4m and 2 metres deep, and is gated to offer peace of mind. The patio has ample seating for all guests including 6 sunlounges for those who enjoy relaxing by a pool, and a table with 6 chairs for those who enjoy dining outdoors. There is a BBQ. Both the fermette and a number of barns surround the pool.

Entering through the front door, the Ground Floor comprises of the kitchen, living room, games area and a bathroom.

Kitchen:
As this is a self-catering holiday rental, it has a fully equipped kitchen including a kettle, toaster, iron and board. The dining area easily seats 8 guests. All crockery and utensils are provided.

Living Room:
The dual aspect large and comfortable living room overlooks the pool and open fields. There is a satellite dish set up for UKTV/Sky, so if you take your own box and card you can watch all your favourite programmes whilst away. The UK TV has a built-in dvd player - there are a number of dvd's at the property but you can also take some with you to watch during your stay. WIFI is also available.

Games Area:
Centred in the middle of the barn is the oak stairway, behind this is a large pub style football table awaiting those with a gaming and competitive edge. There is ample seating for you whilst waiting for your turn!

Car / Access to the Property:
All local amenities can be found in Bonnat which is only 4km away. Here there is a bank, supermarket, bars and the essential boulangerie. There are 2 major towns between 20 and 30 minutes away La Chatre, to the North of the property and Gueret which is the Capital of Creuse, to the South.

A walk around the property takes you to ruined 13th century Chateau whilst a ten minute walk in the opposite direction will take you to the Petite Creuse river.

Within 10 to 15 minutes drive of the farmhouse is 'The 3 Lakes country' (Pays de 3 Lacs) which is the name given to a union of 6 communes in the Creuse valley and the territory formed by them: Anzeme, Le Bourg d'Hem, Champsanglard, La Celle Dunoise, Jouillat and Glénic. Going in from Guéret across to La Celle Dunoise, there are several beaches around the lakes which have lifeguards on duty. Many of the beaches have other facilities such as restaurants, children's swings, and tennis courts. There really is something to do for everyone.

The area is well know for its beauty, and is easily accessible for walking, rambling or canoeing for those more adventurous visitors to the area. Just a few kilometers away is Crozant. In 1827 George Sand visited Crozant for the first time, fell in love with the area and talked to her friends, including Chopin, about his discovery. By 1830, artists were leaving their workshops to experience open-air painting and many arrived in the area because of George Sand.

In 1864 the term Ecole de Crozant had appeared and in 1883 the poet Maurice Rollinat took refuge in Fresselines inviting his friend Claude Monet to the Creuse. Monet went for one week and stayed for three months as was mesmerised by the area, the changing weather conditions, the light, the scenery and the landscapes. By the end of his visit he had painted twenty-three canvases.

At an altitude of 250 meters Fresselines has around 700 inhabitants. Most famously, the delightful restaurant The Cafe Des Artistes is a favourite amongst tourists for le Plat du Jour and is recommended locally for a visit.

Whether you are keen on outdoor activities, exploring natural landscapes or lovers of local food, there is plenty to do in the area.

Directions:
The closest airport is Limoges where both Ryan Air and Flybe operate extensive schedules throughout Eurpoe. Transfer time from the airport is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes by car.

For those travelling from the UK, driving to the property will take just over 6 hours from Calais.

Aqualand, a little further along the coast in Fréjus can also make a very pleasant day . Cannes is famous for its cinema festival in May, its walk on the Croisette and its shopping . There are many wonderful markets to explore. The golfers will have no problem finding a course on the Cote d'Azur.

The Double Room has double doors opening on to the terrace and your very own private swimming pool at the front of the house. The other three bedrooms look out on the secluded lawn at the back of the house. All are simply furnished but tastefully decorated with bedside lockers and lamps, dressing tables and chairs. The second single room has been fitted out with shelves, drawers, wardrobes, trousers and belt/tie hangers and a full length mirror and is more suited to a dressing room, but there is also a small lime green sofa bed which would be suitable to sleep small children. A guest bed could be used to turn the single bedroom into a twin. A guest bed could also be used in the Pigeonnier, a small room up a beautiful stairway just inside the front door, with a lovely view over the surrounding countryside to distant turrets and would be suitable for older children.

Leisure notes:
Le Dorat: (3km) The local village of Le Dorat has every amenity that you might need such as a bakery (four to choose from), two pharmacies, charcuterie, supermarket, newsagent, a shop with regional products, a weekly market and a number of cafés. Despite being a village of only around 2000 inhabitants it has a thriving community and a number of interesting historic features. Built during the 11th and 12th century, the Collégiale St. Pierre is one of the most important Roman churches in the region and the Porte Bergère is a surviving gatehouse that formed part of the 14th Century fortifications. Every other Thursday in July and August the Marché des Producteurs is an evening farmers market with a vast choice of produce, some of which can be grilled for you on the spot!

Limoges: (55km), the closest large city to us has two interesting cathedrals and, being the home of French porcelain, a number of factory tours from the various manufacturers still based there (with shops attached). You can also visit the mediaeval butchers district built in 1471 with its half-timbered buildings or stop for lunch at one of the many restaurants in the city centre that offer world famous Limousin beef.

Oradour Sur Glane (45km): the martyr village, now an important national monument and a reminder of the horrors of war. An interactive visitors centre clearly explains the facts in English and French.

Other towns of interest close by include: Montmorillon (28km), know as the city of writers, St. Savin (45km) with its Abbey church and 11th and 12th century murals (listed since 1983 as a UNESCO world heritage site) and Poitiers (75km). Called the city of a hundred bells it has a combination of interesting architecture, a wide range of shops and the high-tech Futuroscope park located to the North.

Activities: if you want to expend some energy there are plenty of activities located close to us. The regional kayaking centre is at Lathus (13km) and apart from being able to canoe down the Gartempe river, they also offer white water rafting, horse riding, rock climbing and archery. For golfers an 18 hole golf course is at St. Junien (45km) which has a welcoming club house and is set in a stunning natural park, a 9 hole course is located near Mortemart (24km) and another 18 hole course is south of Limoges (55km).

Directions:
BY CAR:
Chateau du Chiron is located just 25km from the A20 motorway. The journey time from Calais is around 6 hours or Dieppe around 5 hours. You can avoid Paris by using the new A28 motorway via Le Mans to Poitiers. The Chateau is marked on the Michelin map as Le Chiron. The nearest village (1km) is Oradour-Saint-Genest, the nearest town with all amenities is Le Dorat (3kms).

Set within a cozy hamlet, the chalet is an idyllic mountainside retreat overlooking the Giffre Valley. Ideally located less than an hour from Geneva airport or train station. Its a 10-minute stroll to the local market, patisserie and ski lifts for Summer biking or hiking.
